This is what monastic life is based upon.
The album reflects the spirit of the film Into Great Silence, on the Carthusian monks.  It translates the film’s inexpressible atmosphere: chants, “bruits du silence,” bells tinkling. It joins together elements of the original soundtrack’s with outside pieces which look further into its mystery by creating an open sound space for the listener. The film was awarded the Prize for Best Documentary at the European Film Awards.

Cet album reflète l’esprit du film Le Grand Silence consacré aux Chartreux. Il en traduit l’atmosphère indicible : chants, bruits du silence, tintements de cloches. Il réunit des éléments appartenant à la bande originale du film ainsi que d’autres qui en approfondissent le mystère en créant un espace sonore ouvert pour l’auditeur.
Le film a été récompensé par le prix du meilleur documentaire aux European Films Awards.
